THE FACTS ABOUT TOBRFV RESISTANCES ON THE TABLE

Since the introduction of ToBRFV, the industry has invested tens of millions in genetics, research and prevention. Thanks to these collective efforts, modern tomato varieties now have a high level of resistance.

Yet, in recent times, we have increasingly heard claims that resistance to ToBRFV has been โ€œbrokenโ€. This is a serious statement, but it does not align with the facts. So it is time to put those facts on the table.

Independent monitoring, international virus tracking, as well as research conducted in our own and external laboratories, do indeed show that new virus clusters are circulating within tomato production. At the same time, the available data do not show that current HR resistances have been overcome.

What we can conclude is that new virus introductions and high infection pressure are playing an increasingly important role in the problems growers are experiencing in practice. This is consistent with what the @NVWA is warning about: the spread of contaminated material remains the greatest risk to the industry.

And that is exactly where the key issue lies. Genetics is not the weakest link. The most important challenge remains: keeping the virus out of the greenhouse.

That is why two things remain as important as ever:

๐ŸŒฑ Strong HR genetics.
๐Ÿงผ Strict and consistent hygiene.

Additional measures that may give the impression that an HR-resistant variety requires extra protection from external sources, such as vaccination, are not permitted and are therefore strongly discouraged by us.
