First pile driven for Axia’s new research center

The construction of a new research center for phytopathology and marker technology, as well as a new greenhouse complex for breeding, has officially begun. Last Monday, Kamila Koropacka and Rick Meijer drove the first pile into the ground.

Certhon will be building the complex, which will consist of two blocks. Block 1, located at Monnikenlaan 2 (where an empty plot with foundation piles had been waiting for construction to start), will serve as a research center, while Block 2 will be specifically set up for (back)crossing programs.

Sandor van Vliet, General Director of Axia Vegetable Seeds, said: “The establishment of this new research center aligns perfectly with our core value: innovation. The center will play a crucial role in the development and breeding of our distinctive tomato assortment.”

The high-tech research center is designed to push the boundaries of tomato breeding and offer a wide range of innovative solutions. “The research team is excited to work in this new environment on groundbreaking technologies and genetic improvements, allowing Axia Vegetable Seeds to continue positioning itself as a pioneer in tomato breeding.”
