Marcel van Kester joins the Axia sales team

“A horticulturist will always have a good foundation for a position with a breeder.” He is a horticulturalist by trade. His technical cultivation background comes in handy in his new job. Marcel van Kester has been working as a sales/technical advisor for Axia for three weeks. Northwest Europe will be his area. To be precise, Scandinavia, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

He is looking forward to it. There is a lot of work to be done. Corona has meant that we haven’t been able to travel as much in recent years. That is now again possible, and that is exactly what he is going to do. “I’ve only just started and still have a lot to learn about our breeds. What I have noticed within Axia is that there is a nice drive. By that, I mean that Axia is a specialist in high-tech tomatoes. That focus is nice.”

Marcel had a good start; last week, he spent three days at the Axia booth at HortiContact. “I was able to get to know my colleagues a little better that way. It felt great. HortiContact was the first round of introductions for the growers who were there. I was able to speak with quite a few Dutch and German people.”

Marcel has been able to catch up quickly in a short time. He wants to get off to a good start. He wants to use his experience to win a higher market share for Axia. “There are opportunities. I want to take advantage of them. Breeders make the trade-off in the process to emphasize flavor or production. Axia wants both. On the one hand, of course, it has to be profitable for the grower to grow our varieties, but on the other hand, I’ve noticed that you can win over markets with good taste. That’s a nice combination. I can really relate to that.”
